New York Giants Hold the Cards in the 2022 NFL Draft

The Senior Bowl practice has been taking place all week. Scouts have been keeping an eye on players who can help out their respective teams for the future, but one team potentially holds the cards for the 2022 NFL Draft. That would happen to be the New York Giants.

They own the fifth and the seventh overall picks in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The reason why this is the case is that the Jacksonville Jaguars (first overall pick), the Detroit Lions (second overall pick), the Houston Texans (third overall pick), and the New York Jets (fourth overall pick) will most likely not draft quarterbacks with those picks.

The Giants are committed to Daniel Jones for 2022 at quarterback and they have tons of holes to fill on their roster. With having two picks, it is quite possible they are going to trade down with one of those picks and accumulate more draft capital for the future.

New general manager Joe Schoen believes in building through the draft. There are teams that are going to want Liberty quarterback Malik Willis or Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett.

Teams are going to want to give up a haul to get their next franchise quarterback. It would make sense to trade with the New York Giants at number five.

There are four potential suitors that could trade up with them: Carolina Panthers (sixth overall), Denver Broncos (ninth overall), Minnesota Vikings (12th overall), and New Orleans Saints (18th overall).

Four of those teams will need a future franchise quarterback. The New York Giants would probably ask for two first-round picks and either this year’s or next year’s second pick and maybe some draft capital to go along with it.

There could be a slim possibility that New York could also trade the seventh selection, but I think they would keep that pick.

Say the New York Giants trade with the Carolina Panthers, New York would then have the sixth and seventh picks in this year’s NFL Draft. With those selections, I think the New York Giants would take Ikem Ekwohu, OL, North Carolina State, and also Tyler Linderbaum, OL, Iowa.
