The Red Sox face the Astros in hopes their confusing deadline moves work out. The Yankees hoped to get back on track for the month of August. The Rays and Blue Jays fight to gain ground in the AL East

NEW YORK YANKEES (70-36)

Domingo German pitched five innings, struck out one, and gave up two runs against the Mariners. Jose Trevino went 2-for-4 with two home runs. DJ LeMahieu went 3-for-4 with a walk. Aaron Judge went 2-for-4 with a home run. Anthony Rizzo hit his 26th home run of the year. The Yankees won 7-2.

Jameson Taillon 4.2 innings, struck out six, and gave up six runs; five earned. Trevino went 2-for-4 with a home run. Josh Donaldson went 2-for-3 with a walk and home run. Isiah Kiner-Falefa went 2-for-4. The Yanks lost 8-6.

Gerrit Cole pitched six innings, struck out eight, and gave up six runs. There were all in the first inning. Kyle Higashioka went 2-for-3 with a home run. Kiner-Falefa went 2-for-3. The Yanks lost 7-3.

The Yankees head to St. Louis to face the Cardinals. Jordan Montgomery is lined up to pitch Friday against his former team. Nestor Cortes, Domingo German, and newcomer, Frankie Montas, are scheduled to pitch.

BOSTON RED SOX (53-53)

Nathan Eovaldi pitched 6.1 innings, struck out six, and gave up two runs; none of the runs were earned against the Astros. Jarren Duran went 2-for-4. The Sox won 3-2.

Kutter Crawford pitched six innings, struck out six, and gave up one run. Rafael Devers went 2-for-4 with a home run. The Sox won 2-1.

Rich Hill pitched three innings, struck out one, and gave up four runs. Xander Bogaerts hit his 9th home run of the year. The Sox lost 6-1.

The Sox start a four game-set against the Royals. Eric Hosmer is set to join them and Jackie Bradley Jr has been designated for assignment. Nick Pivetta, Nathan Eovaldi, and Kutter Crawford are scheduled to pitch. 

TAMPA BAY RAYS (55-49)

Drew Rasmussen pitched six innings, struck out three, and gave up one run against the Blue Jays. Taylor Walls went 2-for-3 with a home run. The Rays lost 3-1.

Jalen Beeks pitched one inning, struck out two, and gave up one run. David Peralta went 2-for-4. The Rays won 3-2. 

The Rays head to Detroit to face the Tigers. Jeffrey Springs, Corey Kluber, and Shane McClanahan are scheduled to pitch. 

TORONTO BLUE JAYS (58-46)

Kevin Gausman pitched eight scoreless innings and struck out 10 against the Rays. Vladimir Guerrero Jr went 2-for-4. Lourdes Gurriel Jr went 2-for-4. The Jays won 3-1.

Yusei Kikuchi pitched four innings, struck out five, and gave up two runs. Teoscar Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a home run. The Jays lost 3-2.

The Jays face the Twins for four games. Alek Manoah and Jose Berrios are scheduled to pitch.

 BALTIMORE ORIOLES (54-51)

Spenser Watkins pitched six innings, struck out five, and gave up one run against the Rangers. Cedric Mullins went 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run. Adley Rutschman went 3-for-4 with a walk. Ryan Mountcastle went 2-for-4. The O’s won 7-2.

Jordan Lyles pitched 6.1 innings, struck out seven, and gave up one run. Jorge Mateo went 2-for-4 with two home runs. Anthony Santander went 2-for-4. Adley Rutschman went 2-for-4. The O’s won 8-2.

Kyle Bradish pitched five innings, struck out five, and gave up one run. Robinson Chirinos went 3-for-4 with a home run. Ryan McKenna hit his 2nd home run of the year. The O’s won 6-3.

The Pirates come into town for the weekend. Dean Kremer, Austin Voth, and Spenser Watkins are scheduled to pitch.

TRADE DEADLINE

Before the first pitch, the Yankees announced they traded for Frankie Montas, Lou Trivino, and Scott Effross. At the 6 pm deadline, they traded starter Jordan Montgomery for OF Harrison Bader. A strange trade but the front office has its reasons. 

The Red Sox made a trade with their opponent, the Astros. They sent Christian Vazquez across the field and traded Jake Diekman to the White Sox. They also acquired Eric Hosmer from the Padres and Tommy Pham from the Reds.

The Orioles traded Trey Mancini to the Astros and Jorge Lopez to the Twins.
