Each Monday during the MLB season, here at E2G Sports, I’ll be breaking down a top-10 power ranking across the league. As the season goes along, new teams are sure to appear, while others will drop out of the ranks.  Like the weather changes, so too does baseball.  As we near the close of April, warm weather will begin to be more consistent around the country.  Which we all know means more home runs.

Power rankings are never finalized and in the case of this weekly article, they will change each Monday!

So, here they are! Be sure to share and comment your thoughts below.

E2G Sports MLB Power Rankings

10. New York Mets (9-8)

At the start of the 2021 season, the New York Mets were predicted to be on top in their division. Well, here we are, and they’re in first place. Jacob deGrom and Marcus Stroman have solidified the top of New York’s rotation to be one of the best in the National League. Offensively, Pete Alonso has carried the way of run production. As we head into May, look for the Mets to possibly move up in the rankings.

9. Houston Astros (10-11)

After the first week of the season, Houston looked like they were going to be a well-oiled machine that is destined for October baseball. Now when you look at this team, there battered and struggling in all phases of the game. The Astros had multiple players last week out after COVID-19 infected multiple players. When Houston gets back healthy, they’ll be in the top five on this list.

8. Tampa Bay Rays (11-11)

The reigning American League champs have fallen under tough times to begin the 2021 MLB season. Yet, they’re still in this top 10 for one reason – they find different ways to win. Not many MLB teams can have consistently bad pitching or offense and still win, regardless of the situation. Losing Charlie Morton, many people believed Tampa was going to take a step down.

The contrary has occurred. Tampa is very much alive and will fight for a division title in the AL East.

7. San Francisco Giants (14-8)

In a surprising start to the 2021 season, San Francisco is right behind the Dodgers for first place in the NL West. Getting Buster Posey back, after opting out last year, has been a huge upgrade offensively. The starting pitching staff for the Giants have been surprisingly solid, as they’ve logged a lot of innings instead of utilizing their bullpen.

6. Chicago White Sox (12-9)

In the offseason, the White Sox made multiple moves to improve their pitching staff. They traded for Lance Lynn and signed Liam Hendricks in free agency. After a slow start to this season, Chicago has turned things around. Look out for the White Sox to move up this list next week if they continue to play well.

5. Boston Red Sox (14-9)

The Boston Red Sox are arguably the most surprising team that has had success in the 2021 season. After an 0-3, Boston fans became worried about its team. Well, since then, they’ve rattled off nine straight and have now been in the first place for multiple weeks.

J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts are off to great starts this season. My only question for this team is this – can their pitching hold up? All MLB teams deal with injuries, sure, but the Red Sox cannot afford a major injury to its pitching rotation.

4. Milwaukee Brewers (13-8)

Milwaukee for the past three years has made the postseason, so why not make it four? Currently leading the NL Central, look out for the Brewers. Brandon Woodruff is the favorited early in the year to win the NL Cy Young award. If he continues to pitch well, the Brewers can and will win the NL Central. His teammate, Corbin Burnes is also finding success early in the 2021 season  When both Woodruff and Burnes are in the starting rotation, the Brewers are going to be a tough team to score runs off of.

3. San Diego Padres (13-11)

The San Diego Padres are starring down a giant right in front of them in the Dodgers. They’re not intimidated though. In the past 2 weekends, they’ve played the Dodgers in two separate series and have had success. Fernando Tatis Jr. is back from injury and has wasted no time showing his athleticism off. The bullpen for San Diego is a concern, but besides that, the Padres are a complete team with not a lot of weakness.

2. Oakland Athletics (14-8)

The Oakland Athletics have quickly turned things around and are a top-five team in the league. The combination of speed and defense makes this Athletics team very dangerous. After a slow start to the season, Oakland rattled off 13 straight and are back on top of the AL West.

1.Los Angeles Dodgers (15-7)

This is self-explanatory… I mean do I really have to explain? The Dodgers could very well break the single-season MLB wins record. Either than the Padres, I’m not sure how anybody could possibly beat this team. When you think you have them beat, they’ll change things up and completely demoralize you. Similar to the late 90s dynasty of the New York Yankees, they will find different ways to beat you each and every night!

As of April 26th, 2021, the Dodgers are the best team in the league. I do not see that changing anytime soon! Teams like the Padres and Athletics will have the best chance to overthrow the Dodgers early in the season for the top spot, but again, I don’t see that happening. On the other side, teams like the Mets and Astros are clinging on to their spots and could easily drop out of my power rankings any day now.

Be sure to come back each week on Monday to find out which 10 teams make it on our E2G Sports MLB Power Rankings.
