  • Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors delivered a signature 3rd-quarter comeback and beat the Dallas Mavericks 126-117. They are leading the series 2-0 and are just 2 wins away from another NBA finals appearance. Curry had 32 points, 6 3-pointers and 8 rebounds. Luka Doncic had a fantastic 42 points despite losing.

 

  • Miami Heat guard Kyle Lowry was upgraded to questionable ahead of Saturday’s Game 3 versus the Boston Celtics.

  • Brendan Smith scored a short-handed goal late in the 2nd period, Antti Raanta had 21 saves getting his 1st postseason shutout to help the Hurricanes beat the New York Rangers 2-0 on Friday night. Carolina has 2-0 lead in the 7 game series. Game 3 is Sunday at Madison Square Garden.

 

  • Zach Hyman scored the go-ahead goal partway through the 3rd period and the Edmonton Oilers rallied to beat the Calgary Flames 5-3 on Friday night, evening up the series at 1-1. Edmonton captain Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist, Leon Draisaitl and defenseman Duncan Keith both had a goal and 2 assists and Evan Bouchard also scored for Edmonton. Oilers goalie Mike Smith made 37 saves for the win and assisted on Draisaitl’s goal. Michael Stone, Brett Ritchie and Tyler Toffoli scored for Calgary. Johnny Gaudreau had 2 assists and Jacob Markstrom stopped 35 shots. Game 3 is Sunday at Rogers Place.

MLB

  • Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts left Friday’s game against the Seattle Mariners shortly after a collision in the top of the 8th-inning with teammate Alex Verdugo. Manager Alex Cora said postgame that Bogaerts is dealing with lower back discomfort and is listed as day-to-day. Trevor Story smashed a grand-slam over the green monster and into the hands of former Red Sox outfielder Jonny Gomes who was sitting on the monster, in the bottom of the 3rd-inning just a day after sending 3 over the wall. Boston beat the Seattle Mariners 7-3.

 

  • The Tampa Bay Rays and the Baltimore Orioles battled into the 13th inning before Rougned Odor hits the walk-off homerun pushing the Orioles over the Rays 8-6.

 

  • The Detroit Tiger and the Cleveland Guardians both played Fridays game without their managers to lead them. Detroit’s A.J. Hinch will miss the game because he isn’t feeling well but tested negative for COVID-19. Bench coach George Lombard managed the team. Cleveland’s Terry Francona missed the game to have a minor surgical procedure and is expected to be back Saturday. Francona had just returned to the team Wednesday after being out 4 games with COVID-19. The Guardians rolled over the Tigers 6-1.
