Hello WWE fans, today we will look at the results of recent WWE shows, Lacey Evan’s live return to WWE-TV, why Brock Lesnar was advertised for WrestleMania Backlash, Ronda Rousey as the new WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion, Booker T on Randy Orton’s singles career, and “WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event”/”WWE Sunday Stunner” events.
WWE Friday Night SmackDown
Shayna Baszler (w/ Natalya) defeated Sasha Banks (w/ Naomi)
Gunther (w/ Ludwig Kaiser) defeated Drew Gulak
Ridge Holland & Sheamus defeated The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) in a “Tables Tag Team” match
Sami Zayn defeated Shinsuke Nakamura via countout
Also during this episode, Lacey Evans made her first live appearance since her return to WWE-TV, so it appears that she will be wrestling again soon. A good first opponent for Evans or someone who she would work well in a program with would be Shotzi, who doesn’t have a program right now.
WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2022
Cody Rhodes defeated Seth Rollins
Omos (w/ MVP) defeated Bobby Lashley
Edge defeated AJ Styles via referee’s decision
Ronda Rousey defeated WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair in an, “I Quit” match to become the new WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion.
Madcap Moss defeated Happy Corbin
The Bloodline (Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso & Roman Reigns) (w/ Paul Heyman) defeated Drew McIntyre & RK-Bro (Randy Orton & Riddle)
It is rumored that the reason why Brock Lesnar was advertised for WrestleMania Backlash was that if he hadn’t, it would have been a clue that he wasn’t going to win in his WrestleMania match against Roman Reigns. False advertising is never good business, so perhaps they should not have advertised Lesnar, and not advertised Reigns until after WrestleMania. However, tickets for WrestleMania Backlash went on sale two months before WrestleMania, Reigns was one of the main draws for the event, and WWE probably feels that the sooner tickets are sold the better. So it’s understandable that they didn’t go that route.
With Ronda Rousey the new WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion, her first program should be with Shayna Baszler. MMA fans would love to see the two former MMA stars in a match together, and I think Rousey and Baszler would enjoy doing it.
WWE RAW Tag Team Champions RK-Bro (Randy Orton & Riddle) defeated The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford)
Rhea Ripley (w/ Damian Priest & Edge) defeated Liv Morgan
Finn Balor (w/ AJ Styles) defeated Damian Priest (w/ Edge & Rhea Ripley) via disqualification
Alexa Bliss defeated Sonya Deville
Veer Mahaan defeated Frank Lowman
Cody Rhodes defeated WWE United States Champion Theory via disqualification
Naomi & Sasha Banks defeated Doudrop & Nikki ASH
Ciampa defeated Mustafa Ali (w/ The Miz as Special Referee)
Asuka vs. Bianca Belair in a “WWE RAW Women’s Title Championship Contenders” match resulted in a no contest
WWE NXT 2.0
WWE NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Toxic Attraction (Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne) (w/ Mandy Rose) defeated Roxanne Perez & Wendy Choo
Fallon Henley defeated Sloane Jacobs in a “WWE NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament First Round” match
Alba Fyre defeated Amari Miller
Andre Chase & Sarray (w/ Bodhi Hayward) defeated Grayson Waller & Tiffany Stratton in a “Mixed Tag Team” match
Nikkita Lyons defeated Arianna Grace in a “WWE NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament First Round” match
Natalya defeated Cora Jade by referee’s decision
During a recent episode of Hall of Fame, host Booker T stated that fans want to see Randy Orton return to main event singles action. While I don’t think right now is a time for him to chase singles title gold, I do think Orton is more valuable to WWE as a singles wrestler than a tag team wrestler. His 10 WWE Championship and 4 World Heavyweight Championship reigns are proof of this. And Edge is going to need someone to have a program with after his current program with AJ Styles. Fans have seen Orton and Edge feud in the past, but it would be a fresh program as this time it would be a face Orton feuding with Edge presenting a new persona.
Since last month, WWE has been branding their weekend house shows, “WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event” and, “WWE Sunday Stunner”. This is a smart move, because no matter how good a house show card has been, smarks tended to view house shows negatively in the past, with the attitude of, “This is not RAW/SmackDown, house shows don’t count.” Perhaps branding these events in this fashion is changing their view. As a side note, I think these events would be additionally appealing to all fans if all of them were shows that included talent from both brands.
