  •  Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals was a wild ride from beginning to end. The 1st period saw 3 goals for Colorado and a single goal from Tampa. Tampa slammed through another 2 in the 2nd period and both teams went without goals in the 3rd, so off they went to OT. Andre Burakovsky scored 1:23 into overtime and the Colorado Avalanche opened the Stanley Cup Final with a 4-3 win.

MLB

  •  Aaron Judge hit his league-leading 25th home run, No. 9 batter Kyle Higashioka followed up an intentional walk with a 3-run shot and the New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3. This was New York’s 13th straight win at home. This is their longest running winning streak at home since 1973. The Yankees lead the major league with a 46-16 record.

 

  • Rafael Devers sent one over the wall in his 4th straight game and Alex Verdugo hit his 1st home run in nearly 2 months. Rookie Josh Winckowski earned his 1st career win in the major leagues and the Boston Red Sox beat the Oakland Athletics 10-1 Wednesday night. Boston has been on a solid run winning 11 of its last 13 games, outscoring their opponents 65-27.

 

  • The San Diego Padres demolished the Chicago Cubs handing them their 9th straight loss with a 19-5 win.  Manny Machado lined a single for his 1,500th hit and hit a 2-run homer on a 4-RBI night. Five different Padres turned in 3 hit games and Jorge Alfaro added a 2-run homer and 3 RBIs.

 

 

NBA

  • The Houston Rockets are finalizing a deal to trade big man Christian Wood to the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks in return will send Boban Marjanovic, Sterling Brown, Trey Burke, Marquese Chriss, and the No. 26 pick in the upcoming draft to the Rockets.

 

  • The Utah Jazz have plans to meet with Philadelphia 76ers assistant Sam Cassell about their open spot for a head coach. Cassell has been an assistant with Doc Rivers for almost a decade, 1st with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2014 then following Rivers to the 76ers in 2020.

 

  • Robert Williams is listed as a “game time decision” for the Celtics ahead of game 6. He is still dealing with nagging discomfort in his knee.

NFL

  • The Pittsburgh Steelers and star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick have reached an agreement on a huge 4-year extension worth a guaranteed $36 million at signing.

 

  • 26 year old Khari Willis, Indianapolis Colts safety, is retiring from the NFL, he made the announcement Wednesday on Instagram. Willis said he plans to “devote the remainder of my life to the further advancement of the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

 

  •  Robbie Anderson, Carolina Panthers wide receiver, said Wednesday that he never really considered calling it quits despite saying in a since-deleted tweet last week that he was thinking about retiring.

Anderson said “I was just thinking out loud, but I wasn’t really that serious”
