  • The Calgary Flames have filed for club elected salary arbitration with restricted free agent winger Matthew Tkachuk. This move makes Tkachuk unable to be signed to an offer sheet by another team.

 

  • After 16 seasons Eddie Olczyk is leaving the Chicago Blackhawks broadcasting booth and will join the Seattle Krakens broadcast team. Olczyk said :

“It was not an easy decision. But Chicago is home, it’ll always be home. I just felt like I needed to take a step back and pursue other opportunities that presented (themselves).”

 

  • The Dallas Stars veteran defenseman Andrej Sekera made the decision and announced on Monday that he would be retiring from the NHL after 16 seasons. Sekera said:

“My hockey career is over, I’ve had some offers as a free agent, but still, I decided to quit. A big reason was my son had some medical issues during the last year. After everything we went through, I realized the best (thing) would be if I devoted more time to my family. I thought maybe it would turn around somehow, but that did not happen.”

 

  • The San Jose Sharks have re-signed restricted free-agent goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen to a 2-year contract. The deal carries an average annual value of $2.75 million. Kahkonen was one of 24 restricted free agents to file for salary arbitration before Sunday’s deadline.

  • The Washington Nationals star Juan Soto overtook the Seattle Mariners rookie Julio Rodriguez 19-18 in the last round to take the crown at the 2022 Home Run Derby Monday night at Dodger Stadium.

 

  • Three-time American League MVP Mike Trout will fill the role as captain for Team USA for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. The Baseball Classic is set to start in March.

 

  • In the 8th round of the MLB draft the Chicago Cubs drafted Mason McGuire. Mason is the son of former 12-time All-Star Mark McGuire.
