  • Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Matt Corral will likely be out for the entire season. Coral missed the last 2 series of their pre-season game against the New England Patriots after being stepped on and suffering a foot injury. After having xrays it was determined that he has suffered a Lisfranc foot injury.

 

  • New York Jets linebacker Quincy Williams was handed a $10,609 fine for an out of bounds late hit on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts during last week’s preseason game.

 

  • Kenny Pickett’s 2nd preseason game proved to be as impressive as his 1st. The Steelers rookie quarterback completed 6 of 7 for 76 yards and a touchdown beating Jacksonville 16-15 on Saturday night.

 

  • Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa played just 2 series in his preseason debut, completing 6 of 8 for 58 yards. Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jarrett Stidham led a touchdown drive on the team’s very 1st possession. The Raiders beat the Miami Dolphins 15-13 in Saturday’s preseason game.

 

  • KaVontae Turpin is the 1st player in 9 seasons to manage a kickoff return and a punt return both for touchdowns within the same game. The Dallas Cowboys beat the Los Angeles Chargers 32-18 on Saturday night.

  • The New York Yankees have lost 14 of their last 17 games and has been watching the Toronto Blue Jays claw away at their AL East lead cutting it to 7 games. According to Greg Joyce of the New York Post outfielder Aaron Judge said on Saturday :

“Just gotta have a little better energy in the dugout and push each other a little bit. We’re just missing that a little bit right now. We gotta come out and bring it (Sunday).”

 

  • Matt Olson hits an accidental check swing double in the 11th to tie it up followed by pinch hitter Travis d’Arnaud hitting a single to win it for their 11th win in the last 12 games. The Atlanta Braves beat the Houston Astros 5-4 on Saturday. Atlanta currently sits 3 games behind the New York Mets in the NL East.

 

  • Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Dustin May made his return from Tommy John surgery and was dominate through 5 innings. This was May’s 1st start since May of 2021, he gave up just 1 hit, struck out 9, walked 2 and retired the last 13 batters.  Will Smith and Justin Turner both contributing 3-run homers lifting the Dodgers to their 7-0 shutout win over the Miami Marlins.

 

  • San Diego Padres manager Bob Melvin said on Saturday that they will give closer Josh Hader a break. They move to a closer-by-committee approach while Hader finds a way to get back on his game. He was acquired by the Padres on August 1st from the Milwaukee Brewers and has racked up a 16.20 ERA in his 5 appearances with the team.
