Thom’s College Football Picks Record: 5-0 Straight up, 3-2 ATS on the season
I am going to be brutally honest with you, this is an awful weekend of College football, as is often the case after a big opening weekend. Of course, being 9/11, there will be plenty of remembrance of the day we were cowardly attacked from behind, and we should take the time to honor and respect those who sacrificed so that even one more person might survive.
This is the reason CBS will be in Annapolis for the Air Force – Navy game, and why many teams will wear special uniforms, including Boston College, who will wear their Red Bandana uniforms at UMass to honor Welles Crowther.
Crowther is a former BC Lacrosse player who at the age of 24, personally saved 18 souls, while wearing a red bandana over his mouth, before losing his own life when the South Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed. Crowther was working for a securities exchange company but dreamed of someday joining the New York Fire Dept or the FBI.
Week two picks
As for the games on the field, Pitt is at UT, and the other UT – UT, Texas – is at Arkansas in the real interesting games
involving the SEC. Pitt is laying 3’ points and I am taking them. I need to see more from the Vols before I jump on that train.
Texas is a 7’ point favorite in Fayetteville and that place is going to be jumping. The Hogs are a tough out; the 7’ is just too much. Woo Pig Sooie…whatever the hell that means.
In the Big 10, Iowa is at Iowa St. in something the CyHawk or HawkClone or whatever. Iowa St. is 4’ point favorites… I’ll take the Hawkeyes of Iowa to rep the 10! Iowa St. is media darlings right now, but this Hawkeye team is full of grit.
Oregon is at Ohio St. and Washington is at the Big House to take on Michigan and both come in limping a bit.
At least the Ducks won, barely, over Fresno St. while the Huskies got gorged by the Grizzlies of Montana St. Yeah, THAT Montana St.
I’m going to lay the points with the Big 10 here, taking the Buckeyes -14’ and Meeechigan -6’. Don’t let me down, boys!
And here’s a bonus NFL selection…in the battle of Tua v. Mac in Foxboro, I’ll take… THE UNDER 43’ points! Gonna be a slobberknocker, and I’m not touching the sides!
